EKOS Corporation Selects Nextrials for Patient Data Collection and Management in Peripheral Vascular Registry Study

Nextrials expands its client portfolio of R&D innovators using Prism® to streamline clinical trial management

Nextrials, Inc., a leader in clinical research software and services, today announced that EKOS® Corporation has selected its award-winning clinical trial data collection and management product, Prism®, for use in an upcoming clinical trial. EKOS is a specialty medical device company known for its innovative work in providing ultrasound-assisted, fluid infusion catheters for diagnosis and therapy. The company is deploying Prism in conjunction with the initiation of a large, multi-site registry study using the EKOS EndoWave™ Ultrasound Accelerated Thrombolysis System in the treatment of peripheral arterial and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) blood clots.

“The EKOS system has demonstrated the ability to clear thrombus in peripheral vessels faster, better, and safer than conventional therapy, according to data recently presented at the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy and Society of Interventional Radiology meetings,” noted Bob Hubert, president and CEO of EKOS Corporation. “Our BRAVO(1) study will evaluate new protocols for treating patients with the EKOS System that will potentially provide even faster and more efficacious results. Nextrials’ Prism will enable our researchers to more quickly evaluate patient data collected at multiple sites through its centralized file system, thereby helping speed getting this data on our novel therapy to the market.”

Prism is the first product designed specifically for the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device markets that pulls together all of the components of managing clinical trials research into a comprehensive, web-enabled system. By combining data management, advanced safety requirements, inventory control and other related services into a unified application, data can be easily and quickly collected, collapsed and centralized, delivering an accurate and timely picture of an ongoing study. This is especially important for large, multi-site clinical trials, as Prism increases the industry’s ability to conduct significant, complex clinical research in a safe and cost-effective environment.

“One of the more rewarding aspects of our work is the opportunity to assist companies such as EKOS Corporation that are developing breakthrough treatments for serious medical conditions,” said James Rogers, co-founder and CEO of Nextrials. “Prism’s capabilities are especially well-suited to multiple site clinical trials such as this one, since it enables EKOS’s researchers to view data across the breadth of a study in real-time. This will not only help boost patient safety throughout the study, but will help EKOS meet its product delivery roadmap.”
