Award Recognizes 20 Years of Electronic Patient Diary Progress
invivodata® inc., the industry leader in electronic patient reported outcomes (ePRO) solutions for global clinical research, today announced that Co-Founder and Chief Science Officer Saul Shiffman, Ph.D., has been chosen to receive Good Clinical Practice Journal’s inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award.
“We’re delighted to honor Dr. Shiffman with our first Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s a recognition of his groundbreaking work in defining the real-time, real-world collection of PRO data which led to the development of eDiaries as we know them today,” said Jenine Willis, editor of Good Clinical Practice Journal.
In addition to his dual role at invivodata, Dr. Shiffman is also professor of psychology, psychiatry and pharmaceutical sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, where he directs the Smoking Research Group, and senior scientific advisor at Pinney Associates. He has also authored more than 250 scientific papers and served on advisory panels for the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society and the Center for the Advancement of Health.
”Working with Saul for the past 20 years and watching his concepts for real-time, real-world data collection through eDiaries become so widely adopted has been exhilarating,“ said Jean Paty, Ph.D., invivodata co-founder and senior vice president of scientific, quality and regulatory affairs. “We co-founded invivodata with Doug Engfer in 1999 to further develop the commercial applications of this technology and are extremely gratified by the positive effect it continues to have on the clinical research industry.”
“I am proud to have been chosen to receive this Lifetime Achievement Award. Helping develop PRO science in clinical trials has been a rewarding endeavor, and having the work recognized in this manner is both gratifying and humbling. This honor also reinforces our belief in the importance of keeping clinical research focused on the patient, which is our top priority,” said Dr. Shiffman.
This award will be presented Sept. 6, 2007, at a gala event hosted by comedian Phil Hammond, M.D., with an opening address from professor Sir Gordon Duff, chairman of the Commission on Human Medicines, at Gibson Hall in London. Additional information on the awards ceremony, which is expected to draw 200 attendees from the biopharmaceutical industry, can be found at www.gcpjawards.com.
